Finding the Calm: Miracles and Blessings Amidst the Storm

We often think of miracles as parting seas or sudden flashes of light—grand, cinematic events that change the course of history. But when the sky turns gray and the winds pick up, we learn that the most profound miracles are often much quieter.

When a storm hits (whether it’s a literal hurricane or the metaphorical tempests of life), our first instinct is to batten down the hatches and hide. Yet, it’s in that very vulnerability that we often witness the extraordinary.

The Miracle of Connection

In the modern world, we’re often "connected" but deeply isolated. A storm has a strange way of reversing that.

  • The Shared Struggle: There is a unique blessing in the way a neighborhood wakes up after a storm. Suddenly, fences don't matter. Everyone is outside with a chainsaw or a rake, checking on the elderly couple down the street or sharing a generator.

  • The Unplugged Moment: When the power goes out, the "miracle" is the sudden return of conversation. Families who haven't sat together without a screen in months find themselves playing board games by candlelight or telling stories. It’s a forced Sabbath—a blessing of presence.

Protection in the Unseen

We’ve all heard those stories—the tree that fell away from the bedroom, the last-minute intuition to stay home, or the stranger who appeared just as a car stalled in rising water.

"Peace is not the absence of the storm, but the presence of grace within it."

While we can't always explain why some are spared and others face loss, there is a recurring miracle in resilience. The human spirit’s ability to find hope while standing in the debris is, in itself, a divine spark.

The Beauty of the "After"

If you’ve ever walked outside right after a heavy rain, you know that specific, crisp scent—petrichor. The air is scrubbed clean.

  1. Perspective: The storm clears away the "dead wood" in our lives, reminding us what actually matters: life, health, and our loved ones.

  2. Growth: Just as some seeds require fire or heavy rain to germinate, our greatest personal growth often follows our darkest nights.

  3. The Rainbow Effect: It’s a cliché for a reason. The light hitting the receding clouds serves as a visual covenant that the chaos is temporary.

A Note for the Weary

If you are currently in the middle of the wind and can't see a single blessing yet, that’s okay. Sometimes the miracle is simply that you are still standing. You don't have to find the "silver lining" while the roof is leaking; sometimes the blessing is just the strength to hold on until morning.

Keep your eyes open. Miracles rarely shout; they usually whisper in the form of a neighbor's knock, a sudden calm in your chest, or the fact that—despite everything—the sun eventually rises.

Bye for now! xoxo
