The "Perfect" Pew: Finding the Healer in a House of Flaws

People, am I right?

They are probably about as predictable as the dialogue in a Hallmark movie. You know the drill: small town, big misunderstanding, and a snowy resolution within 90 minutes. Or are they?

The thing is that people—even those who maintain seemingly perfect attendance in the hallowed halls of a church—are, well, to give you the "real real," flawed.

The Elephant in the Sanctuary

This reality has been the very thing keeping people away from church for years. Let’s be honest: getting hurt by someone (or a "someone plural") operating under a pastor or priest's authority is a wound that runs deep. It’s one thing to be snubbed at the grocery store; it’s an entirely different level of pain when the sting comes from the place that’s supposed to be a refuge.

We’re talking about ravaging wounds that produce scars that run even deeper than the initial cut. When the people representing the Light act out of darkness, it doesn't just hurt—it disorients.

The One Without the Mask

But in the midst of the messy social dynamics and the fallibility of human leadership, we have to ask: What about the One who bears all our scars?

While people might let us down, misinterpret our hearts, or fail to live up to the standard they preach, there is One who stands apart:

  • He speaks nothing but the Truth: No agendas, no gaslighting, no half-truths.

  • He never lets us down: His character is constant, even when His followers are inconsistent.

  • He bridges the gap: Because He is both 100% human and 100% God, He understands your pain intimately while possessing the divine power to heal it.

"He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed."

Shifting the Focus

If you’ve been sidelined by "church hurt," your pain is valid. But don't let the flaws of the sheep keep you away from the Shepherd. The people in the pews are just patients in a hospital; some are further along in their recovery than others, and some are, unfortunately, still quite contagious.

Think about this:  in a Court of Law, as a witness about to take the stand, you would put your right hand on the Bible and swear to tell the truth, so help you God, right?  Guess who has you in his perfect Right Hand granting you His Perfect Grace to tell the truth in the first place!

Look past the stained glass and the human egos. Look to the only One whose scars were taken on voluntarily—for you. He isn't a character in a predictable movie; He is the Living Truth, and He’s the only one capable of turning those deep scars into a story of restoration.

Bye for now, from the lovely and sometime sarcastic, Laurie xoxo
